The nineteenth century saw an explosion in the number of medical periodicals available to the interested reader. Publications such as the Lancet and British Medical Journal are familiar names to many of us, still published and widely read today.

'Working with 19th-Century Medical and Health Periodicals' was held on 30 May 2015 and co-organized by the ERC-funded 'Diseases of Modern Life' Project and the AHRC-funded 'Constructing Scientific Communities' Project, both based at St Anne's College.
Medicine and Modernity in the Long Nineteenth Century
In this two day interdisciplinary conference, hosted by the ERC project Diseases of Modern Life: Nineteenth Century Perspectives, we will explore the phenomena of stress and overload, and other disorders associated with the problems of modernity.
