How do you turn five years of research into a spectacular light and sound show?

Today we released a podcast detailing our work with Cheney School as part of Victorian Light Night.

Researchers from the ERC-funded "Diseases of Modern Life" project at the University of Oxford join experts from a range of fields to discuss some of the major questions surrounding scientific, technological and medical developments.

The 'Solitude and Modernity' colloquium was co-sponsored by 'Diseases of Modern Life' (Oxford) and 'Pathologies of Solitude' (Queen Mary University of London).

Our PI, Professor Sally Shuttleworth, speaks about Victorians, overwork, and quack cures for sleeplessness on the 7th January 2019 broadcast of Radio 4's When Greeks Flew Kites.

Both literature and clinical medicine deal with issues such as subjective identity, selfhood, and the social and cultural determinants of health and well-being.

We are beyond excited to announce that 'The Victorian Speed of Life' project has won an University of Oxford Vice-Chancellor's Public Engagement with Research Award.

Local students have been working with Dr John Traill (University of Oxford) to compose musical pieces about science and medicine. For inspiration, the students attended the Contagion Cabaret at Oxford's Curiosity Carnival in September.

The two talks will raise lots of ideas for discussion, including the impact of modern technologies in each period on the nature of work.

On 29th September 2017, Oxford hosted the Curiosity Carnival - a city-wide public engagement event as part of European Researcher's night.

On Thursday 16 March 2017, Dr Emilie Taylor-Brown gave a talk with Dr Jamie Lorimer (School of Geography and the Environment) and Dr Nicola Fawcett (Medical Sciences Division) on the subject of Germs Revisited.
